How to set the Focus and IPD
Each user should set the Focus and IPD appropriately to fully utilize the capabilities of the XTAL headset.
- Start any of the XTAL demos or compatible applications
- Make sure that the headset is correctly positioned on your head
- it shouldn’t be too low or too high – you can adjust this with the top velcro strap (or with the top wheel for older XTAL models)
- fasten the head strap firmly with the wheel on the back
- you can use the ‘Calibrate headset position’ function to help you with this process (see Eyes page in the XTAL runtime settings menu)
- Change the focus (with the wheels on the sides of the headset) so the image is as sharp as possible [only available for the XTAL 8k and XTAL 5k headsets] – see Focus page for details
- Start the Auto IPD calibration
- click on ‘Auto IPD’ option in the XTAL tray icon menu
- or press the ‘Auto IPD’ key on the keyboard – Scroll Lock by default
- or use the ‘Auto IPD’ button on the Eyes page in the XTAL runtime settings menu
- Wait until the Auto IPD process finishes
- The IPD motors will move the lenses to the middle position
- You will see a calibration object, which you should focus on
- The IPD cameras will detect your eyes
- The IPD motors will move the lenses to the appropriate position corresponding with your IPD distance
- The calibration object will disappear again
- Alternatively, you can also use the manual sliders on the Eyes page in the XTAL runtime settings menu to change the IPD to specific values
- or use the ‘Set IPD manually’ option in the XTAL tray icon menu to access the page directly
