Standard usage guide

You can follow these simple steps for a day-to-day usage of the XTAL headset:

  1. Connect XTAL headset to the computer
  2. Start VR Tool application [see VR Tool page for details]
  3. Go to Settings tab
  1. Make sure that the VRG runtime is installed and updated (VRG runtime section shows ‘Status: Installed’)
  2. If you have installed the SteamVR driver, make sure it is set correctly according to the demo/application you’ll be using
    • if you’ll be using a native XTAL application (for example any of the demos available in the Demos folder) the SteamVR driver should be disabled
    • If you’ll be using a SteamVR compatible application (for example VR applications/games available on the Steam platform), the SteamVR driver should be enabled [see SteamVR driver page for details]
  3. Check that the Direct Mode is enabled
    • If you are using a laptop computer, it is recommended to Disable and then Enable again the Direct Mode each time after you connect XTAL headset to the computer. This needs to be done because of a different process of Direct Mode initialization for mobile NVIDIA drivers, but it can also apply to some desktop workstations.
  4. Start the tracking manager/application for your tracking system (SteamVR for Lighthouse tracking, DTrack for ART tracking…) and make sure that the headset is tracked properly [see Tracking page for details]
  5. If you are using any VR controllers, make sure that they are working and are tracked in the tracking manager/application
  6. Start the VR application (for example one of our demos)
  7. Make sure that correct tracking system is selected in the XTAL tray icon menu [see XTAL tray icon page for details]
  1. Put the headset on
  2. Set the focus and IPD appropriately [see How to set the Focus and IPD page for details]
  3. Enjoy your VR experience
